Read Your Writing!

This is an idea I go when I read Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass. Somewhere in the forward (by Anne Perry) it mentions how, as readers, we read what we love. But when it comes to being an author we often avoid reading our own work at all costs. What does this mean? Maybe we don't enjoy our own writing. How can anyone else even like our writing if we don't love the words we put on paper?

I dare you to read your the stories you've written. If you don't love any aspect re-write until you do love it.

Novel Series

Obviously when you hear about successful novel series you think of the big three: Harry Potter, Twilight, and the Hunger Games. Of course there are TONS of them and I don't doubt that there will be more novels series that are turned into movies (cause they are awesome).

But if your thinking about making your own novel into a series, it's not always crystal clear as to whether it's meant to be a stand alone or series.

What's your favorite series that you're read? What was it that you liked so much?

Sympathy for Villains

This week's video is a little different from what I normally do, but I'm hoping it will spark your interest. With new novels constantly coming out you want your book to stand out from the others. How do you do that? Complex characters. In this case it's our villain.

Comment below if you want other videos like this were I talk about different elements you can through into a story, OR if you have questions about an aspect in writing or publishing comment below and I'll make a video on it!
